As part of a U.S. initiative to encourage state pride and to revamp our dated state quarter, quarters featuring symbols from each state where created by the U.S. Mint.Quarters were created for all 50 states, Washington D.C., and all U.S. Territories.

State quarters were first released in 1999 at the turn of the millennium. Five quarters were released each year, except for the final year when 6 quarters for each of the U.S. Territories were released. In 2009 the last quarters were released.In total, 56 State Quarters were minted.

Below is an image gallery presenting the designs for all of the 50 State Quarters. The series was launched in 1999 with the Delaware Quarter and concluded in 2008 with the release of the Hawaii Quarter. The 50 States quarters program, launched by the US Mint in 1999, was setup to encourage interest and curiosity to a new generation of coin collectors. The United States Mint started the commemorative 50 State Quarters program in 1999 and continued through 2008. Each state has a quarter associated with each one of the 50 states. The US Mint's 50 statehood quarters program was launched with much fanfare in 1999 and met with lots of enthusiasm – especially among new collectors. It was an initiative that honored each of the states in the order they ratified the Constitution or were admitted to the Union. Each year, five statehood quarters were unveiled.

The state quarters program was widely popular.Today, state quarters make up a majority of the quarters in circulation.There have been over 35,433,600,000 state quarters minted to date worth a total of $8.86 billion.
